Day 1   LUANGPRABANG ARRIVAL 

Meet upon arrival at Luang Prabang airport, transfer and check-in to your hotel. In the afternoon, visit Vat Visoun temple with its Singhalese-style stupa, That Makmo, and Vat Aham, one of the city’s major teaching shrines housing the puppets of the Lao ancestors. Then, enjoy the sunset along the Mekong River at Vat Prabath Tai.

Overnight in Luang Prabang.

 

Day 2   LUANGPRABANG  / XIENGKHOUANG    BY CAR          (B)

After breakfast, drive on mountainous road to Phonesavanh, the new capital of Xiengkhouang Province through an astonishing landscape of limestone karsts.On arrival, visit plain of jar site 1 of the Plain of Jars, located 10 km from Phonesavanh with over 300 jars.

The Plain of Jars consists of a large area extending around Phonesavanh, where several hundred huge jars of unknown origin are scattered about in over a dozen groupings.

Overnight in Phonesavanh (Xieng Khouang).

 

Day 3   XIENGKHOUANG / MOUANG KHOUNE              (B)

After breakfast, stroll through the bustling Phonesavanh market where the local hill tribes gather daily to trade their goods, especially venison. We drive to Mouang Khoune, the former provincial capital which was almost completely destroyed by heavy bombing during the Vietnam War. En route, stop and visit various hill tribe villages such as H’Mong, Thai Dam (Black Thai) and Phuan. There is a short orientation tour of Mouang Khoune including the ruins of Vat Phia Vat and Vat Tha Foune temples. Continue to visit site 2 (home to the largest jars) and site 3 of the Plain of Jars, both located close to Mouang Khoune before returning to Phonesavanh.

Overnight in Phonesavanh (Xieng Khouang).

 

Day 4   XIENGKHOUANG / VIENTIANE   BY FLIGHT               (B)

After breakfast, transfer to the airport for the return flight to Vientiane. Meet upon arrival at Vientiane’s Wattay airport, transfer and check-in at your hotel.

In the afternoon, visit Vat Sisaket, the only original temple in Vientiane (built in 1818 - it is the sole survivor of a Thai invasion in 1828), the Ho Phrakeo, the former Royal Chapel, where an Emerald Buddha dating back to the time of the Lane Xang Kingdom was enshrined, the Patouxai and That Luang Stupa.

Overnight in Vientiane.

 

Day 5    VIENTIANE / DEPARTURE                       (B)

After breakfast, free time until you transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
